Day 1 Cairns to Daintree - approx 240 km

Day 1 Arrive in Cairns and pick up your vehicle before beginning your holiday. From Cairns follow the east coast up to the village of Daintree. Take the car ferry across to the area surrounding Cape Tribulation with its scenic lookouts, diverse scenery, tranquil beaches and coastal rainforests. Turn inland towards Helenvale and make camp at the historic Lions Den Hotel.

Day 2 Daintree to Musgrave Roadhouse - approx 260 km

Day 2 has you Leaving the Black Mountain area, passing through the town of Lakeland. Along the way visit the Split Rock Gallery, which has one of Australia's best collections of Aboriginal rock paintings, stencils and engravings. North to Laura along the Peninsula Development Road, stopping at the Hann River Roadhouse and then to Musgrave Roadhouse, where you can stay overnight, enjoying a nice camp ground, excellent hot showers and cool drinks.

Day 3 - Musgrave to Archer River - approx 220 km

Day 3 depart Musgrave and head north. The next major town is Coen which is known as the "Capital" of the Cape. Along the way travel into the Mungkan Kandju National Park where the Archer and Coen rivers converge. This is wilderness area encompassing rainforest to wetlands. Your camp tonight will be at the Archer River Roadhouse, a vibrant travel stop where we can refuel both body and vehicle.

Day 4 Archer River to Chili Beach

Day 4 make your way east into the Iron Range National Park,containing the largest area of tropical lowland rainforest in Australia as well as coastal and mountain scenery. Rare fauna and flora include cuscus, palm cockatoos, palms and orchids. Tonight Camp among the coconut palms at the remote Chili Beach (one of the nicest camping spots on the cape).

Day 5 Chili Beach to Bramwell Junction - approx 170 km

Leaving Chili Beach and its rainforest explore some the local WWII history, before heading back out to join up with the Telegraph Road, and visit Moreton Telegraph station. Heading north, you camp overnight at Bramwell Junction and prepare yourself for the Cape York experience ahead.

Day 6 Bramwell Junction to Eliot Falls - approx 127 km

Today you travel along the South Bypass Road to Fruitbat and Ellot Falls. (Please note: The Old Telegraph Road is very rough and your rental vehicle is not allowed on this section of road.) After entering the Heathlands Resource reserve, you find yourself at the wonderful Fruitbat falls. After a swim make your way to the camp ground at Eliot Falls with the opportunity of having a cooling dip at Twin Falls .

Day 7 Eliot Falls to Punsand Bay - approx 150 km

Travel this morning has you tracking back to the Northern Bypass Road. (Please note: The Old Telegraph Road is very rough and your rental vehicle is not allowed on this section of road.) You will track over to the Bamaga Road (northern section) and up to the ferry and make your way through the township of Bamaga on your way nearly to the top of the Cape. Camp at the beautiful beach in Punsand Bay.

Day 8 Punsand Bay to the TIP OF CAPE YORK

The goal of reaching Australia Northern most point is reached today as you make the final trek to the TIP. You will drive up to the abandoned Pajinka resort, and walk the boardwalk, through coastal forest, and over a large rocky headland to tip of Cape York and take the obligatory photographs to prove it. In the afternoon visit the ruins at Somerset (once the home of Frank Jardine), which was the official government residence on the Cape.

Day 9 Around Punsand Bay / Seisia - approx 116km

Day 9 Make your way back down from the top and make camp in the Seisia campground which its great facilities. Seisia has a good supermarket and is the dock area for tours to Thursday Island and for supplies into the towns. Fishing tours can also be arranged. After settling into your campground, drive out to Mutee Head, a beautiful beach. Other attractions in the area are an old radar tower, WWII aircraft wrecks and the remains of massive fuel dumps.

Day 10 Seisa to Captain Billy Landing - approx 185 km

Day 10 you leave the Tip of Australia, returning back down the Bamaga Road, across the Jardine River ferry and then down the Northern Bypass Road crossing east along the Heathlands Reserve and out to Captain Billy Landing. This can be a very corrugated road with undulating speed ramps. Captain Billy Landing makes for an interesting camp site.

Day 11 Captain Billy Landing to Weipa - approx 250 km

Day 11 depart Captain Billy Landing and head back track to the Bamaga Road then head south through Bramwell Junction, passing Moreton Telegraph Station and take the Batavia Downs road to Weipa. This is the largest town in the Cape region, and makes a welcome change from the dusty tracks you have encountered.

Day 12 Weipa to Musgrave Roadhouse - approx 310 km

Day 12 depart Weipa and spend the day retracing your steps back down the Peninsula Development Road to Musgrave roadhouse. Todays journey will set you up for a great day on Day 13 through Lakefield National Park.

Day 13 Musgrave Roadhouse to Laura via Lakefield National Park

Day 13 A truely memorable day travelling through Lakefield National Park (Queenslands 2nd Largest). Today you will experience a diverse landscape, coastal estuaries, mangroves and mudflats; wetlands; vast grasslands, woodlands, sandstone hills and escarpments. A spectacular national park with so much to see and do.

Day 14 Laura to Cairns- approx 175 km

Day 14 is the return journey to Cairns. If you have time take the scenic route to Mareeba on the beautiful Atherton Tablelands where you can drop down the Kennedy Highway to Cairns via Kuranda. Please note your vehicle needs to be returned by 4pm.
